ABOUT ME
I am extremely humbled to be shortlisted for the Leeds North West Parliamentary seat and absolutely delighted and proud to be the Co-operative Party Nominee.
I firmly believe that the Labour & Co-operative party is the best vehicle for positive change in our constituency and our nation. As an enthusiastic Labour & Co-operative woman campaigner, with over a decade of experience, I am committed to the values and principles of championing equality, equity, fairness, and social justice.
I have resided in North Leeds for over 20 years and as Chair of the neighbouring Leeds North East CLP, I have been heavily involved in the success of our parliamentary seat and winning my own elections for a second term as Councillor with an increased vote share of over 65%. I have great communication and people skills, and I excel in conveying messages clearly at all levels. I believe I am the best candidate to help deliver that victory for our party as I am not afraid to stand up for what I believe in, even in the face of opposition, and I am a great campaign strategist.
I was born overseas but have spent most of my adult life in Leeds, I started at Leeds University where I studied in the department of Politics & International Studies. I chose to bring up my twin sons in Leeds, who are now 19 years old and studying at university. The role of our young people in Leeds is very important to me and the opportunities we provide for them.
My roles as the Councils Scrutiny Chair for Infrastructure, Investment & Inclusive Growth, former Scrutiny Chair for Adults Health & Active Lifestyle, Lead Member for Faith & Religion, Chair of the Hate Crime Strategic Board and Food Champion have provided me with valuable experience and insight into the needs of my city of Leeds and I am very capable of representing the same at a national level.
As a member of two trade unions, I continue to support our unions and support the campaigns to protect workers’ rights and terms of service.
We are living in difficult and uncertain times, and I can bring real change driven by our cooperative values and ethos as I have the skills, temperament, and experience to reach out right across the city to include those voices that are often unheard or ignored and to provide a strong cooperative voice in parliament. I am election ready for WIN 24.
